CELEBRATING TOM JOBIM IN SEATTLE

Life and Music of the Bossa Nova's creator will be shown in Seattle
this January, 23rd

SEATTLE, January 7th, 2015 Honorary Brazilian Consulate in Seattle, Giordano Productions and Morningsong Productions have reserved the main stage at The Triple Door, in downtown Seattle, this January 23rd at 7:30pm for the kickoff of this year’s Brazilian Nights Pacific Northwest series with a celebration of the life and music of Antonio Carlos Jobim. Seattle’s adopted Brazilian Jazz Piano great Jovino Santos Neto has put together an evening dedicated to Brazil’s best-loved composer. Joining him will be vocalist Maucha Adnet, who performed with Jobim for 10 years, and legendary Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo, best known in the U.S. for his work with Kenny Barron and Diana Krall.

Brazilian Nights PNW is dedicated to introducing Seattle to Brazilian artists who represent the best traditions of a culture drenched in rhythm and melody. Local Seattle musicians rooted in those same traditions will team up for evenings of music guaranteed to delight and astonish. “We want to showcase artists who are pushing Brazilian music forward while staying true to their roots, and who may not get a lot of airplay outside of Brazil. We want to see what beautiful things evolve from the cultural exchange this makes possible.” said co-producer Adriana Giordano
Brazilian Nights PNW kicked off a successful first year last August 8th, with the pyrotechnic Alessandro Penezzi Trio. The audience that night had perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see three passionate players and composers working together at the height of their powers. Local musicians had a chance to learn one-on-one in workshops with these generous artists.

Last September 12, the Triple Door audience was transported to the wild and mysterious natural landscapes of Brazil by soulful vocalist Paula Santoro. Accompanied by pianist Rafael Vernet, MS. Santoro sang out to the best in each of us, and we couldn’t help but sing back.

In October, the project closed with Filo Machado, revered composer, arranger, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. Filo was joined on stage by his 11-year-old grandson Felipe, who charmed us all with his beautiful voice and left no doubt that Filo’s royal musical line will endure for generations.

Opening for these three shows were local artists En Canto, Brazilian Orchestra, known for its lively and exotic melodies, Brazilian jazz and soul combo EntreMundos Quarteto, and, of course, Seattle’s godfather of Brazilian music, pianist and composer Jovino Santos Neto.

Brazilian Nights PNW counts on donations from music lovers to support the project. “Every donation is used to realize the Brazilian Nights PNW project and its musical workshops”, said Pedro Augusto Leite Costa, Honorary Consul of Brazil in Seattle and one of its producers. Donations can be made to the fiscal sponsor Jazz Night School at 206-722-6061.

Tickets are available at thetripledoor.net and 206-838-4333.
